Maine sends a delegation to the founding caucus in St. Louis. Major Waldemar P. Adams of Portland chairs the national Committee on Name; the Maine delegation elects Albert Greenlaw chairman, James Boyle secretary, and Walter Butler treasurer — the Department of Maine is born in St. Louis.
The Department of Maine holds its first organizational meeting at the Maine State House, with 25 charter posts across the state.
The Department of Maine's first State Convention convenes in Bangor; membership has already grown to 54 posts. Albert Greenlaw is elected the Department's first Commander (serving 1919–1921), and James Boyle becomes its first Adjutant, a post he'd hold for more than 30 years.
